We often joke about "the item of the day" when we're out garaging - something we see for sale everywhere through a morning. This week we kept finding odds and ends of greeting cards with envelopes in baggies. Guess I'm not the only one who mostly sends ecards now. Or probably most people send greetings via Facebook, which I don't use. Anyway, even old ladies (like me!) are now getting rid of their birthday and thank-you cards. (I still keep an appropriate stash for sympathy cards, though. Call me old fashioned, but there are some things you just should not get in your email and a sympathy card is one of them.)
But occasionally we find something that none of us has ever seen on a driveway before. Something like...
...a cute harness so you can take your pet rat for a walk!
So I'm wondering: will we ever see another? Or will we start seeing them all the time, like they've always been around and we just didn't notice?
What's the most unusual thing you've ever spotted for sale?

I am laughing so hard. I don't think my pet rat would like a harness well if I had one that is and I don't. Funny!
ReplyDeleteIt did appear to be unused, so maybe their rat didn't like it either!
ReplyDeleteWell, since you asked... I once saw a special swing for adults--and I'll leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteI find it funny that each day seems to have some trending item. Last Friday it seemed every sale we attended had a cribbage board with one having 2! Also saw about 3 Yahtzee and Monopoly games.
If I could get one for my husband.....
ReplyDeleteAlas, my garage sale shopping days may be over. Unless I am *having* one myself, or donating some of our stuff, I am going to start steering clear of sales and thrift stores. I just read The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, by Margareta Magnusson, and I know I need to mend my ways. All the more reason to follow your adventures, however, and to share in your fun finds vicariously. But for now, I am going to tackle passing along the stuff we no longer need or use and the stuff that remains unclaimed and unwanted by our grown children. It's time to pare down.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. When going to sales in Arizona, I ran into too many people who said they were just going to leave everything for the kids to sort out. I also read AoSDC and thought she had wise advice. My favorite "simplify" book still remains Elaine St. James' "Simplify Your Life." but for a good laugh try Marie Kondo's "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up."
DeleteThank you, Robin's Books, for the additional suggestions. I am going to request the Elaine St. James book from the library.
