Sweet Girl

Back in March our lovely Mrs. Wilberforce celebrated her fifteenth birthday.

Six weeks later, we discovered that she had a tumor in her abdomen. Trooper that she was, she hung out with us for ten more weeks, spending most of her time on our dining room table to keep an eye on everything. I’m so glad I had those weeks with her, so we could sit in the sun together a few more times.

This week we had to say goodbye to her. Such a benign, wise being.

It’s been rather a hard year. We lost Noll Baxter last July

and Edward in March.

I know others will come to live with us one of these days, and they will make us laugh. (And sometimes drive us crazy as well.) I confess I do not understand people who say they loved their pet so much they can never get another one. To me, the very best way to honor them is give a good life to another.

But for now, we just miss her.

  2. I am so sorry we had our sweet Sadie Kitty for almost 20 years and she had a tumor in her nose. It is their personality that can not be replaced I miss her still 2 years later.

  3. I am so sorry. Pets become such a big part of our family and the hole they leave in our hearts is hard to fill.

  4. It is so difficult to lose our fur babies, they are as much family as our human relatives, and who else gives us that unconditional love. I agree providing a loving home for a new pet is a great way to honor them when you are ready. I think we all have different time frames for that, but eventually get there.

My heart hurts for you. Sending hugs.

  10. I lost Billy Bob last year and I still miss him, he was such a sweet kitty. Since we live longer, it is normal that we will have lots of kitties in our lives.
    I feel your loss.

    Take care,

  16. I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Wilberforce - though I was never able to meet her in person (closest I came was seeing her under a coverlet), she was a lovely lady cat. My deepest condolences - but like you, I can't imagine a life without these wonderful fur spirit guides.

  19. Ohhhh....so very sad. I am sorry, too much loss in one year. We lost cats last year. 6 weeks ago I brought home 7 week old kittens. It's been non-stop laughter since. We have a very tall, multi-level cat tree and they have mastered it. Amazing and fun to watch them chasing each other up & down. When you are ready for new babies you will know. It's lonely without them.

    1. Hello, me again.... I also wanted to tell you I love your blog. As a fellow lover of other people's cast offs at bargain prices, I love seeing and hearing about your shopping trips. I usually hunt for pottery, Fiestaware, and old white vases from 20's - 50's. But I've been known to bring home boxes of quilting fabric, little teddy bears, and little rabbits & lambs. It's a crazy passion! I've reached the down sizing stage, purged, and now am very picky about what comes home with me. Happy hunting!
