Mark Them Off the To-Do List!

Just finished a major project, and I am jazzed!

Some of you may remember that a year ago in July, I scored a set of four Hans Wegner dining chairs. Mid century modern perfection…except that the seats needed reweaving.

Which I have just finished! My husband did the cleanup of the wood, and I wove the seats. A few days ago my SIL and I were looking at the three that were done and decided they look quite real.

So for the first time in over forty years we have an actual set of dining chairs. If we keep this up, we’ll make it into the middle class yet!

  6. I would love to know just how you did the weaving. I have four Dux chairs that need to be repaired. Do you have more chairs to do? I'd love to see a tutorial. What material did you use and where did you purchase it?

This has been on my to do list for years!
    I'm so excited for you!

    1. Hey, if I can do this, you can! I found some of my info online, and also used The Caner's Handbook by Bruce Miller and Jim Widess. I checked it out of the library (natch!) but it's still available to buy. I found a great tutorial on this site: http://www.thomaspenrose.com/diy_cord01.htm
and a long ongoing discussion at a forum on DesignAddict.com http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread_show_one/thread_id/7773/.

There are a number of places to order supplies; I used Frank's Cane & Rush Supply http://www.franksupply.com/. You want Danish cord for this kind of project, which is made of twisted paper. I used the laced version, thanks to the recommendation of Modern Chair Restoration http://www.modernchairrestoration.com. Lots of good info on that site as well!
