GOOD ADVICE!

I don't always have time to read the comments on other folks' blogs, and I bet you don't either. And I don't want you to miss this one, referring to the posting below about the Canadian government (lots of other fun comments came too...this one just whanged my funny bone):

"I'll bet Walmart is in collusion with the Canadian government on this "warning". Oh wait, that means that CHINA is in collusion with the Canadian government since everything you buy at Walmart comes from China. Good grief, it's a worldwide conspiracy to scare us away from garage sales. Strike back--hit as many as possible this weekend!!!!"

So let's all take Kate Spike's advice and get there there garaging this weekend! She's obviously a very smart lady--even though she does think she has the best husband, and that would really be me. ;o} Gotta admit, hers does sound like a VERY close second!

  1. Garage Sales V Walmart - I'll join the challenge too! Of course in France, it'll have to be Vide Greniers V Carrefour. Mind you, I did buy a really dud mini-vaccum at at vide greniers last year, which overheated and then the lead broke in half, so in all fairness, I think that's what the Canadian government is trying to save us from. Still - I'm on for the challenge.

  3. I think most Canadians react to those warnings like teenagers being told to put on a jacket. "Okay Mom" and do what they want any way. The safety warnings really apply to car seats and cribs and it amazes me when I see parents in nice, newer cars using a twelve year old car seat; It seems like false economy. Isn't Walmart actually the euphanism for the Ministry of Planned Obselence.

  4. And thanks for your comments on my blog. I would love to get the lampshades to you but that kind of defeats the free part. Did you notice that the egg beater was $.50, doesn't that make me a princess? I have a tiara (not thrifted but bought at a 50% discount) that I used for a vintage domestic diva look.

  7. Sometimes my country really embarrasses me. This is really typical.

It also bugs me that they are publishing the booklets: "a new booklet entitled Information to Shoppers of Second-Hand Products; and a fact sheet, Facts for Garage Sale Vendors - 2009." If people are buying children's safety equipment, can't they just look up this stuff for themselves online? Does anyone really rely on governmental fact sheets anymore, or even read them, for that matter? My tax dollars go to publishing material that is over-cautious and readily available on the internet as it is. *sigh*

Oh no, is that thrifted popcorn popper I just bought for $1.50 going to explode? Or perhaps the cast iron frying pans I bought for $1 could be used as lethal weapons... I guess to be on the safe side I should stick to Walmart. No consequences of shopping there.
